WIP Wednesday for 11/5/25
In which I share what I've got in progress this week...
I’m furloughed from work right now and part of my plan to stay busy is to do some more crafting. While I’ve got my current go-to project and plans to start some new coworker cross stitches, I realized I have other in-work projects around the house that I’ve totally forgotten about. There’s a tradition of fiber artists sharing their current works in progress - WIPs - on Wednesdays and I figured, why not go digging through my project bags and plastic bins?
I’ll be honest, I didn’t think I actually had more than 2, maybe 3 projects that were mid-stream. Turns out, this bin had some things in it I totally forgot about. (Yes, it says Fingering. It’s a weight of yarn; get your mind out of the gutter!)
First up, there’s this shawl that I started in the Spring, I believe. It’s made in the very affordable Berroco Ultra Wool. While I didn’t use a pattern, I did borrow the approach from the Trigonometry Wrap (Ravelry link) from SweaterFreak. My original intention was to make this for Lizzy but there’s two problems 1) I only have a teeny tiny bit of the white yarn left, not enough to finish it - accidentally gave it all away and 2) like me, she can’t handle wool against her skin at all. So, it goes back in the bin until I figure out if I want to frog my progress or just toss it and use the rest of the lovely green and pink for something else.
Next up, I finally got the guts to take a class to make myself actually practice at real colorwork. I took an Intro to Fair Isle at fibre space and started making the Fossil Frenzy Cowl (Ravelry link) by Mary P. Hunt. The yarns are, well, who knows. From fiber space and I think British? While I despite Ravelry, I probably should be better about recording my project details *somewhere.* I got pretty far by the end of the second I think it was 90 minute class but put it aside shortly after that. While I’d love to finish this, the pattern was too complicated for a beginner so I’ll eventually pull this out and use a simpler cowl pattern. (Anyone have any good ideas for an easy beginner fair isle cowl?)

Then there’s my two sock WIPs. The navy is my barely started pair of sock’s for a second cousin. I really need to reach out to his mother to confirm his current foot size before really delving into these. The others are a pair of my favorite Monkey socks that I started while on my trip in August from yarn I picked up along the way. I don’t actually know who these are for - maybe Lizzy? Maybe my mother-in-law? We’ll have to see whose feet they fit, but they definitely don’t work for my size 8 foot. The navy yarn is from Cozy Caldron Fiber Co. in Sapphire Blue that I ordered at least two years ago. Don’t worry, she still sells it as a custom dye on all of her basis. The multi-colored yarn is…well, I have no idea. Sorry.

This shawl is in something I sort of made up in Malabrigo Sock in Moreine Lake. Yes, that really pretty lake in Banff you’ve probably see a million photos of. I started this back in July after getting the yarn at The Yarn Patch in Crossville, Tennessee during a family reunion nearby.
I’ve also just cast on for a baby blanket for a coworker but we’ll wait another week to share that when I’ve got some real progress, ok?
So, I wrote most of this post last (Tuesday) night but then I’m up in my office this morning and realized there was another plastic bin with WIPs in it, this time for cross stitch and embroidery. These three things were in there. No idea when I started on the embroidery but I know that the granny square and the red/pink color sampler were from earlier this year. I decided to toss the sampler as, really, I was never going to look at it - I was going to look through my floss in person or look up a color chart.

Your WIPs are all so pretty! I’m surprised to say that I don’t have any WIPs at the moment. I’d better go start making some!
I am not a crafter, like, at all. I am afraid of clutter and crafts bring stuff into my house. It’s weird. I’m not actually afraid of clutter but I just don’t like it. I have two kids soooo crafting is kind of what they do, I just sit nearby, have tea and read. Maybe I don’t like crafts since I am impatient? Or I am just terrible at them? Who knows? Doe you find crafting to be relaxing?
