Junk in the…Journa
In which I share my latest obsession…
I don’t even know how it started, but a few days ago, I came across a post on Instagram or maybe here on Substack about junk journaling. Then, as it does, one like on a post lead to more posts and videos and now much of my feed is junk journaling. Yep, I’m obsessed.
What even is junk journaling? The idea is that you collect whatever stuff as you go about life then take that junk plus stickers and fun papers and whatever embellishments and turn it into pretty collages, right in your journal.
I already tend to collect random pieces of my life and add them to my journal when I travel and occasionally in my normal life. This takes it to a whole new level.
I went on Instagram last night and grabbed images or video stills of some amazing creators. Double-click on an image to see whose account each is from. They are, in order, catsplanner (well, she’s there twice - also the sixth pic), elenorandleaf, scrap_akr, katkenyon_, tamarasjournaling, lilbugaj, jasmini_the_genie, juliasjunkjournal, janes.arch1ve, and bella_grace016.

Last night I grabbed out my stickers and paper punches and even dug out a big glue stick and a double-sided tape dispenser to try my hand at this. Like I said the other day, part of me really wants to have a junk journaling that goes back and forth with a friend though that’ll wait a bit. Starting small with the unlined pages in my Alchemy journal as my practice pages..and starting to paste every other page of this chicken notebook together.
(Aside: Bri Grosvenor and my need to capture inspiration for future junk journaling of my own lead to my reopened my Pinterest account. Go see her note about the “fashion” found in her abandoned account and some of my own in the note’s comments.)
